2008 Dripping Wet Pro - Freshie Beach
24th May - Freshwater, NSW Aust.3-4 ft clean early- SE on shore later.
The Open Men's, Saturday event got good waves, not the best Freshie
can produce ( that's usually during the week) but there were heaps of
waves.
All week the swell was trying to get organised, the banks were there but the swell direction was all wrong. The surfers got solid 4ft waves but not always a wall to work.
When they did it was a reo festival with good speed cutties and some airiels to boot.
Before the SE wind turned up it looked quiet nice but as the wind
turned it on, the waves didn't. There were long waits for the surfers
as they tried to bring in the big scores for the Quarters and Semi's.
Even Nathan Hedge had a shocker of a semi, until he pulled a decent
wave towards the end of the heat to make the final.
The final got underway in the last light of the day. All the surfers deserved a big hand for their effort in trying conditions, some just scraping through their heats because of a cleaner wave or section. judging this baby would have been hard.
The finals was opened up and won by Chris Davidson on a solid
wave that he cut to pieces and it looks like he kept that up till the
end of the heat. Nathan Hedge got 2nd with Ty Watson 3rd and Rhys
Bombaci 4th.
Cheers,
Adam Albertini
