eStuff

SurfCDs is about providing photos for the people - via our CDs or via links to photographers who have partnered with us in one way or another. We know that the sport of surfing is one of the most photographic sports on the planet, and for an individual to be photographed on a wave in a critical section - or just standing on a board - is something that the surfer may take with them all their life, and share with the kids/grandkids when that time comes.

In doing what we do at SurfCDs - that is putting the photos into an available medium for the viewer - we are always looking at a better way to achieving our main goal by constantly reviewing the latest technology inovations that can assist us in this direction. As part of this, SurfCDS is looking at providing attractive, page-turning eStuff - eBrochures; eCatalogs; eGuides and ebooks - that give the viewer another choice in the medium available.

eStuff is a form of electronic publishing - creating downloadable and web page viewable guides; brochures; photo albums and other eStuff as takes our imagination. We will be creating them for us here at SurfCDs - as well as providing our services to create them for the general public.

If you have not viewed an ebook before, you will be prompted to download a small file (a viewer, similar to a pdf reader) that will allow you to view the ebook. An example of this procedure can be viewed by taking the link to an eguide we created for the Noosa 2007 slideshows on YouTube (click here), or viewing Part 1 of Mary Gardner's Adventures in Local Ecology (click here).

Some of the benefits of eStuff include :
— other online publishing formats  have limited interactivity
— e-brochures are unique in their ability to feed live content, be it text or images
— file size can be as small as 100th the size of PDF due to massive
compression rates
— Apple Mac users can view any e-brochure file so long as they have
PC Simulator software and the vast majority of Apple Macs now sold
have such software.

There are three options for delivery of eStuff :
— Download. If downloaded by the viewer, e-brochures arrive in a
format they can read immediately. The reader is contained within the
file.
— E-mailable. A unique ‘DNL’ format was developed so that a brochure can be e-mailed directly to clients as an attachment. Usually customer/company security firewalls will prohibit certain
attachments. As the DNL format does not contain a reader it bypasses such security devices in the majority of cases. The customer just has to click once to get the reader allowing them to view the file.
— In-browser. All e-brochures can be viewed within an internet browser. Many companies show PDF in this way — the problem is that each time the customer goes to another page, they have to wait for content to reload. E-brochure content is available immediately.

We reckon they're great - hope you do to!
